And make sure you buy a good eMarketing solution.¬† Your success isn’t based on the database solution, its what’s in it (the data quality and the profiling enhancements) and how you utilise your CRM database.¬† Good luck !

If I was doing all this again (implementing a CRM database), I’d look to a hosted solution (more often called ‘in the Cloud’ these days).¬† Unless you are a massive organisation with your own servers and team to support those servers.¬† Then there is no point – as you don’t get the¬†cost and hassle savings.

Internal Comms and your CRM system

Internal Comms issues with your CRM system

– Everyone hates loads of emails ‚Äď make yours useful, short or communicate via another method

– Be different and stand out from the crowd (like posters in toilets rather on a crowded notice boards)

– When you’ve got something to say, say it big (email, poster, memo, Q&A sessions at the same time)

– Regular communications should add value not hassle (e.g. weekly activity review of fee-earner’s contacts)

– Work with key influencers ‚Äď they’ll spread the good word for you in their own meetings and 1-2-1’s

What your CRM database should give you

What should you be aiming for with your CRM (contact relationship management) database:

– Easy, simple and quick to use
– Allows “one contact:one record”
– Linkable to other systems (e.g. billings, email)
– Upgradable and future proof
– Good supplier support and relationship
– Holds standard data: contact reports, tenders, credentials, events, mailings)
– Good automatic activity alert / management reporting abilities
– Is more useful to your firm that fee-earner’s own stand-alone system
– Low admin burden
